How do I schedule a SOF tour for my group?
Request a guided tour by e-mailing the farm at msufarm@msu.edu. In your initial correspondence, please suggest 2 or 3 date and time options, the number of people you expect to be in your group, learning objectives, and the age range of your group. During the busy season (June - September), please reach out to schedule a tour at least one month in advance.
How much does a tour cost and how many people can be in a tour group?
Over the years, we’ve found that more than 30 people in a tour group have difficulty all hearing guides and fitting comfortably in the hoop houses together. We can accommodate groups larger than 30 people by providing 2 tour guides. Tours will have the option to be led by a SOF Student Crew Member or by the SOF Farm Manager.
- 1 - 30 people -Student Crew Member led rate: $50/hour
- 1 - 30 people - Farm Manager led rate: $100/hour
- 30 - 50 people - Student Crew Member led rate: $100/hour
- 30 - 50 people - Farm Manager + Student Crew Member led rate: $150/hour
- 50 - 100 people - Reach out for scheduling/rates
We also offer several tours every year that are free and open to the public.
We ask that everyone attending tours adhere to the latest recommendations from the CDC and the University regarding Covid-19 protocols.
What do tours cover?
Tours generally cover a brief history of the SOF and its markets, an overview of basic organic farming principles and practices, as well as four-season hoop house vegetable production. If folks are interested in focusing on a particular topic, like CSA or permaculture or winter growing, we are happy to accommodate such interest as much as possible.

The Student Organic Farm is located on 15 acres at the western edge of the MSU Horticulture Teaching and Research Center (HTRC). When you arrive, please park in the main HTRC parking lot, just inside the main gate when you drive in. A staff member will meet you in the parking lot to walk you out to the SOF at your scheduled tour appointment time
